The Wentworth Estate is a private estate of large houses set in about 2.7 sq mi (7 km 2) of woodland, in the Borough of Runnymede, Surrey. It lies on a gently undulating area of coniferous heathland , around 0.75 mi (1.21 km) south west of the centre of Virginia Water .
Virginia Water is a commuter village in the Borough of Runnymede in northern Surrey, England. It is home to the Wentworth Estate and the Wentworth Club. The area has much woodland and occupies a large minority of the Runnymede district. Its name is shared with the lake on its western boundary within Windsor Great Park.
The property was featured in an American exhibition titled "Modern architecture in England" at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1937. [ 3 ] [ 4 ] Grade II listed by English Heritage in August 1986, [ 5 ] it is the only remaining listed building on the Wentworth Estate following the demolition of Greenside in 2003.

A house was built at Potnalls, Potenall, Portenall, or Portnall Park by c. 1770.In 1804 Rev. Thomas Bisse (c1754-1828) exchanged it for some land at Tite Hill, Egham (probably land that had belonged to his wife's aunt Lydia Challoner (died 1803) with David Jebb, [1] the younger son of Dr. John Jebb, Dean of Cashel (c1706-1787), [2] and elder brother of John Jebb (reformer).
The present house dates back to 1737, although its fronts are largely c. 1830.. In 1869, the property was owned by Thomas Holloway, [3] philanthropist and founder of two large institutions which he built nearby: Holloway Sanatorium in Virginia Water, Surrey, and Royal Holloway College, now known as Royal Holloway, University of London in Englefield Green.
