The airport is in the Patenga area of the city, 20 kilometres (13 mi; 11 NM) west from the city's main commercial hub, GEC Circle and 18.5 km south of the city's railway station on the north bank of the Karnaphuli River. BAF Station Bogura (ICAO: VGBG) is a Bangladeshi Air Force base [3] but planned for public use airport 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) northwest of Bogra, in northern Bangladesh. It is operated by the Bangladesh Air Force. As of July 2015, no scheduled passenger flights serve the airport, but civil air operations are allowed with prior approval. [4] [5]
Comilla Airport was built by the United States in 1941−1942 during World War II. After the war, the airport catered to domestic flights. [3] Pakistan International Airlines flew from Comilla to Dacca and Chittagong, [4] and after independence Bangladesh Biman operated flights to Dacca. [5] The airport became defunct in 1976.
