USCGC Rush (WHEC-723) was a United States Coast Guard high endurance Hamilton-class cutter. The ship was named after Secretary of the Treasury Richard Rush. Rush was launched on November 16, 1968, commissioned on July 3, 1969, and was decommissioned on February 3, 2015 after 45 years of Coast Guard service.

The designation of high endurance cutter (WHEC) was created in 1965 when the United States Coast Guard adopted its own designation system. High endurance cutters encompass the largest cutters previously designated by the United States Navy as gunboats, destroyer escorts, and seaplane tenders. [ 1 ]

[1] During the Vietnam War, he served aboard USCGC Winnebago (WHEC-40).Later, he was assigned to USCGC Bering Strait (WAVP-382), USCGC Kukui (WAK-186) and USCGC Chase (WHEC-718) before becoming executive officer of USCGC Boutwell (WHEC-719) and commanding USCGC Rush (WHEC-723) and USCGC Sherman (WHEC-720).
