In January 1987, Marcos loyalists simultaneously held a colloquial “Military Exercise” at Villamor Air Base and Sangley Air Base. Several officers of the Wing were held at gunpoint at the Wing Operations Center, some were held hostage elsewhere. The coup attempt failed, before the day's end command and control of the Wing was restored.
