    As for water temp, the water is usually warm enough to go in by early June. One positive about Lake Hartwell, is the fact that due to the coldwater winter months, the lake does not have water moccasins. The water moccasin's habitat / range, ends just north of Columbia and does not extend into the Upstate lakes.

    As to a fear of "water snakes", I assume you know sea snakes are no worries around there. If you are talking about snakes in fresh water, sure there will be an occasional water moccasin, but they likely will be on the marsh side and/or in the canals. Yet the times I've been kayaking around, I never seen one on AI.
