In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Jans Bay had a population of 116 living in 33 of its 43 total private dwellings, a change of -23.7% from its 2016 population of 152. With a land area of 6.09 km 2 (2.35 sq mi), it had a population density of 19.0/km 2 (49.3/sq mi) in 2021.
The track, last purchased in 2021, is said to have undergone numerous upgrades.

The 2012 race featured, for the first time since 2008, once again two steam-powered boats as competitors, as well as the diesel-powered Belle of Cincinnati. The American Queen , returned to overnight steamboat service in April 2012, competed in the three-way race on May 2, 2012, and finished as second.
