The New Hampshire Department of Corrections is the government agency in the U.S. state of New Hampshire charged with overseeing the state correctional facilities, supervising probation and parolees, and serving in an advisory capacity in the prevention of crime and delinquency.
The prison, which was opened in 1878 to replace a previous prison constructed in 1812, is the oldest in New Hampshire Department of Corrections. It was expanded and renovated in the 1980s, and it houses maximum security male prisoners and has a 60-bed secure psychiatric unit and residential treatment unit.

The Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility (NNHCF) is a state prison in Berlin, New Hampshire, United States. It is a part of the New Hampshire Department of Corrections. It is 120 miles (190 km) north of the state capital at Concord. NNHCF contains only medium security male prisoners and has a maximum capacity of approximately 500 prisoners.
