Large sections of the Willowemoc are open to public fishing. It is an especially popular and picturesque fly fishing stream. The area claims to be the "birthplace of fly-fishing in the United States" [6] largely because of trout fishing on the 27-mile (43 km)-long Willowemoc Creek.
