Wilson named the growing settlement Batavia in 1840. A year later he was named the town's first postmaster, and he probably used his house as the post office. [1] The two-story house was constructed during Wilson's term as postmaster, in 1843. The lumber was produced locally with Batavia's sawmills. He lived in his house until his death in 1848.
