Hello, belated Dungeon Master here, I was wondering if anyone knew about a good (preferably free) program for designing a world map. I don't need anything too fancy, but typically the ones I find are either random generators or smaller scale, like dungeon makers.
People are going to tell you tools like Wonderdraft, Inkarnate, and so on because you asked "Best DM Map Maker?" But you're actually after a Virtual Tabletop. Like others, I'd echo Foundry as your VTT. I use Wonderdraft for world maps, and Dungeondraft for battlemaps; both export images that are easy to import into Foundry.
Howdy all, I'm starting a new game, and am looking for suggestions on something to use to make a world map. Just like, an overview map kind of thing. I've tried Inkarnate, wasn't really my cup of tea. Even something like a blank map generator, that I can plug words and Icons into would probably work. Anyone have any suggestions ? Greatly ...

Wonderdraft is pretty amazing. It's what I'm using for my homebrew world map and even smaller maps like regions and cities. It's a one-time purchase and there are tons of free assets you can download as well as being one of the most user-friendly map-making programs around.
The map generator can be quite fun to play with although i wont lie - i have no experience with how customizable it can be in terms of land shape and city placement. I usually use it to help get the environment and shape of the world or continent. Map generator: https://azgaar.github.io/
