Werribee Park is the estate of a historical building in Werribee, Victoria, Australia.. It includes Werribee Park Mansion, the Victoria State Rose Garden, [1] formal gardens, the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre, the Werribee Open Range Zoo, a contemporary sculpture walk and a natural riverine which is being grown with the plants of the Kurung Jang Balluk clan who lived on Werribee River.

The property was said to have three racetracks. The Chirnside's became one of Victoria's prominent pastoral families, entertaining the colonial gentry and organising sporting functions for their guests at Point Cook. In 1873 the Chirnside brothers began construction of the elaborate mansion at Werribee Park.
Werribee was established as an agricultural settlement in the 1850s, originally named Wyndham and later renamed Werribee (derived from the Aboriginal name meaning "backbone" or "spine") in 1904. The suburb is situated on its namesake the Werribee River , approximately halfway between Melbourne and Geelong , on the Princes Highway .

During the 1840s, it became popular with wealthy citizens of Melbourne as a suburban retreat from the town. Several large houses were built and, together with neighbouring Toorak, it maintained its upper-class reputation into the post-World War II period. South Yarra Post Office was open briefly in 1854, then reopened on 21 June 1858. [5]
