These trucks were designated by chassis type, followed by their manufacturer and model. Early use of "M" numbers relate to the body and not the truck itself. During WW II, "M" numbers began to be used for new trucks as well. In 1945, all truck production halted.
For model years 1963 and 1964, the renamed range (C-900 to C-1500) received single headlights and a new, convex version of the eggcrate grille. For 1965 the name became the D series , followed by the 900A-1500A in 1966, 908B-1500B for the next year, and the last year (1968) which was unsurprisingly called 908C-1500C , depending on weight rating.

The L series was a complete range of trucks introduced in late 1949. The first new trucks since the war-era D/K/KB models, they introduced a cab with a one-piece curved windshield that continued in service until 1971. They were also the first trucks with the Raymond Loewy "IH" insignia that was used into the 1970s.
