A.D. Vision Holdings, Inc. (known simply as ADV and also referred to as ADV Films) was an American multimedia entertainment distributor headquartered in Houston, Texas, and founded in 1992 by video game fan John Ledford and anime fans Matt Greenfield and David Williams.
The studio is best known for producing English-language dubs of Japanese anime series and live-action Japanese films released by ADV, Sentai, Switchblade Pictures, and Maiden Japan. [3] Other notable clients include Warner Bros. , Sony Pictures , Microsoft , PBS , and Toei Animation . [ 4 ]
Acoustic Doppler velocimetry (ADV) is designed to record instantaneous velocity components at a single-point with a relatively high frequency. Measurements are performed by measuring the velocity of particles in a remote sampling volume based upon the Doppler shift effect.
ADV Films announced they had licensed the OVA series at Project A-Kon 9, which took place in May 1998. [4] It was dubbed in English and released as a single direct-to-video film under the name of Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie on VHS and DVD on September 7, 1999, to coincide with the international release of Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast. [5]
The series was later dubbed by ADV Films and was released to DVD in North America, along with the original Japanese version in 2003. It soon went out of print, and until 2018, was only available as a digital purchase from the now-defunct Daisuki site, [ 3 ] then Sentai Filmworks licensed the series.
Formed in 2005, [1] Discotek primarily focuses on licensing retro titles from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, a lot of them "license rescued" from other companies such as Funimation, Viz Media, ADV Films, Bandai Entertainment, Geneon, Manga Entertainment, etc.
