The Central Philippine University College of Nursing, also known as CPU CON or CPU College of Nursing, is a department within Central Philippine University, a private university in Iloilo City, Philippines. It was established in 1906 as the Union Mission Hospital Training School for Nurses as the first nursing school in the Philippines. [1]
The student body consists of nearly 7,000 undergraduate and 100 graduate students from all over the country, but majority comes from Mindanao particularly Davao City, where the school is located. Basic Education enrollees total to around 4,000. In 2012, San Pedro College opened its Ulas Campus at Ulas, Davao City for School Year 2012-2013.
The College of Nursing has level IV accreditation and accredited by the Commission on Higher Education as Center of Excellence. The school has a 98.13% passing rate as of July 2011. As of the June–July 2012 Nurse Licensure Examination, the College of Nursing got a 90.99% passing rate by Class Archeans 2012.
In June 1947, the permit to open the first year of the four-year course of the College of Nursing, was granted by the Bureau of Private Schools. Classes were held in the school building at Zurbaran St., Manila and the students’ clinical experiences were undertaken at the Manila General Hospital.
[1] In 2010, Manila Doctors College was renamed into Manila Tytana Colleges. The same year, the new name was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), while the operative date of use was set to June 1, 2011. The College of Nursing, retaining the former name of the college, is now called Manila Doctors College of Nursing.
