Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry (pictured in 1976) was hired by Paramount to create a new television series set in the same universe. As production was underway on the film Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Paramount executives began to work on ideas to bring Star Trek back to television, [1] hiring writer/producer Greg Strangis to develop some proposals.
