In 1911. St. Catharine Church is a Catholic church in Spring Lake, New Jersey, used by the Parish of the St. Catharine & St. Margaret in the Diocese of Trenton.. Built in 1901, it has been described by the Monmouth County Historical Commission as "the finest high-style example of Classical Revival architecture in Monmouth County."

In 1820, Bishop John Connolly of New York sent Richard Bulger to Paterson to serve as first resident priest in New Jersey to Paterson. [4] In 1821, Bulger established St. John the Baptist Church, the first church of any denomination in Paterson. [7] Waves of Irish and German Catholic immigrants flooded into the area during the mid-1800s.
St. Mary's Church was chosen to be the cathedral of the new diocese. Bishop Michael J. O'Farrell was consecrated on Cardinal John McCloskey at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City and enthroned in St. Mary's on November 17, 1881. The gymnasium and convent were built around 1900.
