Sherrill Manufacturing, Inc. (SMI), which operates under the brand name Liberty Tabletop, is a manufacturer of flatware located in Sherrill, New York.The company was founded in 2005 when Matt Roberts and Greg Owens bought the factory and equipment from their former employer, Oneida Limited, once they had ceased manufacturing in the facility. The company operates in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, and Asia, marketing and distributing tabletop products, which include flatware, dinnerware, crystal stemware, glassware and kitchen tools and gadgets. The factory in upstate NY was sold to Liberty Tabletop, who is the sole manufacturer of US made flatware. [2]
In January 2005, the company ceased manufacturing their product, closing its main plant and selling its assets. The factory, under new ownership, continues to produce American-made silverware under the Liberty Tabletop brand. Currently the largest non-governmental, non-healthcare product of Oneida County is gambling.
The Stieff family sold Kirk-Stieff in 1990 to Lenox, makers of tabletop items like flatware, china, and crystal. Lenox was a division of Brown-Forman Corp. Eventually silverware production was moved to Providence, Rhode Island, while sterling silver, holloware, and pewter would remain at the Stieff factory.
