The Florida Gulf and Atlantic Railroad (reporting mark FGA) is a shortline railroad owned and operated by RailUSA in the Florida Panhandle.The line consists of 430 miles (692 km) of track: a main line from Baldwin, Florida (just west of Jacksonville), through Tallahassee to Pensacola, as well as a branch from Tallahassee north to Attapulgus, Georgia.
The Tavares, Eustis & Gulf Railroad (TE&G), advertised as the Orange Blossom Cannonball, was a tourist railroad company operating excursion trains on historic track owned by the Florida Central Railroad, [1] from October 2011 to late March 2017.
In November 2024 Amtrak truncated the Silver Star at Washington and merged it with the Capitol Limited, creating a single Chicago–Washington–Miami route: the Floridian. [22] [23] On January 29-30, 2022, U.S. Sugar and Trains Magazine hosted a private photo charter of the No. 148 locomotive pulling passenger and freight consists. [24]
Amtrak created the Capitol Limited in 1981 as a Washington section of the Chicago–New York Broadway Limited, with the split occurring in Pittsburgh. [2] It became a fully separate train in 1986. [3] The train gained bilevel Superliner cars in 1994. [4] Amtrak inherited the Silver Star from the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad in 1971.
In 1996, the town of Dania Beach and Broward County swapped land to allow the county to build an access road to a new station site and the International Game Fish Association Hall of Fame and Museum. [11] The new station, located about 1 ⁄ 2 mile (0.80 km) north of the Tigertail Road station site, opened on August 14, 2000. [12]
