In the 1950s, the University of Florida began enrolling women, and in 1955, the first woman graduated from the college with a master's degree in chemical engineering. In 1957, nuclear engineering was established as a department, and in 1959, the university's 10,000-watt nuclear training reactor became Florida's first critical reactor.

The Des Moines Civic Center is a 2,744-seat performing arts center belonging to Des Moines Performing Arts located in Des Moines, Iowa. It has been Iowa's largest theater since it opened on June 10, 1979, and is used for concerts , Broadway shows, ballets , and other special events.
In 1969, plans were made to dissolve official ties with Drake University, which happened by 1974. Krasnapolsky oversaw the doubling of the classical season, from five concerts to six concert pairs, for the 1977–78 season. He also oversaw the transition to the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines in 1979, the Symphony's home ever since.
