Checkers [note 1] (American English), also known as draughts (/ d r ɑː f t s, d r æ f t s /; British English), is a group of strategy board games for two players which involve forward movements of uniform game pieces and mandatory captures by jumping over opponent pieces.

In 1948, Walter defeated Asa Long to become the new World Checkers Champion. Hellman held the title the American Checker Federation World Championship from 1948 until 1955 and from 1958 until 1975. Hellman lost only one World Title match, in 1955 to Marion Tinsley. Winning the 8 other occasions in 1948, 1949, 1951, 1953, 1962, 1963, 1965 and 1967.
Charles Clendell Walker (December 11, 1934 – August 12, 2024) was an American Mississippi state checkers (draughts) champion and Christian minister. He founded the International Checker Hall of Fame in Petal, Mississippi in 1979. [1] Walker is also known in checkers history for his record-setting victories in simultaneous checkers matches.
