The trailhead up to Sawtooth Peak starts in Mineral King, 23 miles (37 km) off of California State Route 198 on Mineral King Road. The trailhead is located at the end of Mineral King Road in a parking lot/staging area. The trail up to the peak is 11.5 miles (18.5 km) round trip and is rated difficult.
One of the more popular uses of the area is the hike to Notch Peak so you can look down the notch in person. The summit can be reached by following a trail from the east side of the mountain in Sawtooth Canyon. The hike is about 7.5 miles round trip (12 km), with 2,600 feet (790 m) elevation gain. [7]

The Sawtooth Mountains are a range of small mountains on the North Shore of Lake Superior in the U.S. state of Minnesota, extending about 30 miles (48 km) from Carlton Peak near Tofte on the west, to Grand Marais on the east.
Sawtooth Peak is located seven miles west-southwest of Joseph, Oregon, in the Wallowa Mountains. It is set within the Eagle Cap Wilderness on land managed by Wallowa–Whitman National Forest. [2] The peak is situated one mile north of Legore Lake and line parent Twin Peaks.
The lake is most easily accessed from the Iron Creek trailhead, which can be accessed from State Highway 21 via Sawtooth National Forest road 619. Thompson Peak is the highest peak in the Sawtooth Range of Idaho. Its 10,751 ft (3,277 m) summit is located within Custer County, although some of the lower portion of the mountain is in Boise County. Thompson Peak is also located within the Sawtooth Wilderness portion of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, a unit of Sawtooth National Forest.
