Corning is a city in Steuben County, New York, United States, on the Chemung River. The population was 10,551 at the 2020 census . It is named for Erastus Corning , an Albany financier and railroad executive who was an investor in the company that developed the community.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 37.3 square miles (97 km 2), of which 0.4 square miles (1.0 km 2) (1.07%) is water.. The Chemung River, formed by the confluence of the Cohocton and Tioga Rivers a few miles west of the town, flows through the town, and the city of Corning.
