This state park is always packed in the summer months for good reason, however this season it's still closed. The beach across from the state park campground on the East Bay is very pleasant. There's plenty of picnic tables, and sandy beach spots. Boat rentals are available and the water is perfect for swimming.

Reservations: 800-447-2757. Traverse City State Park features a quarter mile of beautiful beach on the Grand Traverse Bay. The park is only two miles from downtown Traverse City, one of the most popular resort towns in Michigan. The campground is open year round with heated restrooms.
Pulling into the campground, a cottage for rent (fully furnished and with linens) can be viewed to the right of the entrance as well as two rustic cabins for rent; additionally, the state park offers a pop-up camper for rent seasonally.
The park is located on the southern shoreline of East Grand Traverse Bay, a bay of Lake Michigan, and is used mainly as a campground. US-31/M-72 runs between the park proper and a beach area; there is an overpass by way of which campers can get to the beach.
