I am about to move into the holly hills/bevo mills area. The odd thing about St. Louis is that in much of the city (with the exception of the very high rent areas like Ladue, Clayton, and Frontenac, as well as the others that are similar but farther out such as Wild Horse Creek and much of the valley) you can be in a fine neighborhood one minute and three blocks over you really don't want to ...

<Now then, where are the GOOD places to live? Kenwood, which is just west of the crime-filled Uptown area, and St. Louis Park. In fact, St. Louis Park is the overall best place to live in Minneapolis in my humble opinion.> It's strange how a good neighborhood can be so close to a bad one! Economy: Columbus seems to have held onto its big hometown HQs better than St. Louis has. But St. Louis has the bigger economy overall, which makes some sense, as it's a little bigger metro than Columbus, whose actual Missouri peer is Kansas City. Transportation (car and public): St. Louis on both scores.

I always hear about St. Louis being such a bad city. Just yesterday I read about it being in the top 5 for the most dangerous cities in the U.S. Since I'm not that naïve, I know the WHOLE St. Louis can not be full of crime. I know there are good and bad parts of a city.

Yea, large parts of St. Louis has fallen on pretty hard times, but there's also still a lot of healthy neighborhoods. In St. Louis, it's the northside that's having issues sort of analogous to Chicago's south side which makes the headlines, and yet there are still plenty of neighborhoods that are pretty nice that don't get much attention.
