The festival which is now held at the Luis A. Ferre Performing Arts Center in San Juan, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2006 with a performance of the Philadelphia Orchestra under the musical direction of Maestro Christoph Eschenbach. The Prades Festival established by Casals in France in 1950 was renamed the Pablo Casals Festival in 1982.

After the law was signed by then Governor of Puerto Rico Luis Muñoz Marín, the task of organizing the orchestra was given to the same group which organized the Casals Festival. The first live concert was performed on November 6, 1958 in Mayagüez, hometown of Don Pablo Casals’s mother. [2]
Victor Tevah (April 26, 1912 – March 3, 1988) was a Chilean conductor of Jewish-Greek ancestry. In 1961, he acted as director to the Argentine Philharmonic (Teatro Colón); from 1966–1979, he was director to the Casals Festival and Orchestra, Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and the Puerto Rico Conservatory; Tevah led Chile's Symphony Orchestra as director and conductor from 1947 until 1985.
He was awarded first prize at the 1947 Prague Festival. [3] [4] He appeared as a soloist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and other orchestras in Israel and abroad, [3] and in music festivals, such as Tanglewood, Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Marlboro and the Pablo Casals Music Festival in Puerto Rico.
The New York Times of 9 April 1911 announced that Casals would perform at the London Musical Festival to be held at the Queen's Hall on the second day of the Festival (23 May). The piece chosen was Haydn 's Cello Concerto in D and Casals would later join Fritz Kreisler for Brahms 's Double Concerto for Violin and Cello .
