Bendigo is a ground level premium station, featuring two side platforms. It opened on 21 October 1862, with the current station provided in 1965. Initially opened as Sandhurst, the station was given its current name of Bendigo on 1 September 1891. [1] The disused station at Golden Square is located between Bendigo and Kangaroo Flat.

The site covers 10.3 hectares of land and has 31 separate buildings, including a 10,000 sqm main workshop building and six kilometres of railway track. [1]
The Heathcote railway line was a cross-country link between Bendigo and Heathcote Junction. It was partly opened in 1888 and, by 1890, it was fully operational. [2] It was partially closed in 1958 and fully closed in 1968. In 1975, it was decided to dismantle the track and, today, only some trestle bridges remain. [3]
