Random Island's first European colonial settlement, Ryder's Harbour, was founded in the 1760s. The site, located at the northeastern terminus of the island, was previously visited often by the many fishing expeditions from Trinity. Deer Harbor and Thoroughfare were settled nearby in the 1800s as fishing traffic to Random Island grew.

Robinson Bight is a settlement located on Random Island, near the east coast of Newfoundland, at Trinity Bay, Canada. It shares a name with the bight at its location. [1]
The island is instead known as the most remote inhabited island on Earth. Gough Island is uninhabited apart from a weather station with around 6–7 people on it but they are not a permanent population. [1] Easter Island is another omission. The island is 320 kilometres (200 mi) from Isla Salas y Gómez. [2]
