Saint John the Baptist Cathedral is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fresno, located at 2814 Mariposa Street in Fresno, California. The parish was established in 1882. [ 1 ] In 1878, Catholic settlers in the area recognized the need for a church and began to raise funds.
Originally the Roman Catholic Dioceses of Fresno announced the consecration of St. Charles Borromeo Church for Nov. 4, 2022, however the date had to be changed to sometime in early spring 2023.

The first Catholic church in Mariposa, St. Joseph's, was dedicated in 1857. [4] In 1859, Pius IX renamed the Diocese of Monterey as the Diocese of Monterey-Los Angeles to recognize the growth of Los Angeles. In 1867, Our Lady of Mercy Church was dedicated in Merced.
