Brigadier General Ethel Ann Hoefly (March 8, 1919 – August 3, 2003) was an American nurse and member of the United States Air Force. She served with the United States Army Nurse Corps during World War II and volunteered for service in the European Theater. After the war, Hoefly left the army and worked in civilian hospitals.
She is the first Black female on active duty to become a general officer in the United States Air Force Medical Service. [1] Foster also serves as the 19th chief nurse of the Air Force, responsible for establishing policies and maintaining programs for 19,000 active duty, Guard and Reserve nursing personnel. [2]
