The Pan American Wushu Championships is a continental wushu championship hosted by the Pan American Wushu Federation (PAWF), the official continental representative of Pan America to the International Wushu Federation (IWUF). [1] Since 1996, the Pan American Wushu Championships have been held every two years.
Wushu was also part of the 2014 Nanjing Sports Lab which was a promotional event for non-Olympic sports which also included sport climbing, skateboarding, and roller skating. [11] Group A athletes who qualify would also be able to compete in the Wushu event at the 2022 Summer Youth Olympics in Dakar, Senegal, [12] which has been postponed to 2026.

The World Wushu Championships (WWC) is an international sports championship hosted by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) for the sports of wushu taolu and sanda (sanshou). [1] The tournament has been held biennially since 1991 and is the pinnacle event of the IWUF.
Starting in 1994, the USAWKF started hosting regional and national competitions for Wushu Taolu and Sanhou events, and also developed a national ranking system. [1] In 1995, the USAWKF held the 3rd World Wushu Championships in Baltimore, Maryland, which marked the first time a major international Wushu competition was held outside of Asia. [6]
Numerous wushu competitions including the 2020 World Junior Wushu Championships and the 2020 Taolu World Cup were postponed or cancelled. [7] [8] The IWUF left no updates on the situation regarding the 16th world championships for months, but on July 15, 2021, the IWUF virtual congress announced that the 16th WWC would be postponed to 2023. [9]
The IWUF has also been in an active pursuit of olympic wushu after being fully recognized by the IOC in 2002. [5] The IWUF fell short of having wushu becoming an Olympic sport in 2008, but the IOC allowed them to host an international wushu competition alongside the 2008 Summer Olympics, which was known as the 2008 Beijing Wushu Tournament.
