Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a U.S. national lakeshore in the northwestern Lower Peninsula of Michigan.Located within Benzie and Leelanau counties, the park extends along a 35-mile (56 km) stretch of Lake Michigan's eastern coastline, as well as North and South Manitou islands, preserving a total of 71,199 acres (111 sq mi; 288 km 2).

M-109 is the designation of a state trunkline highway in the Lower Peninsula of the US state of Michigan that runs between Empire and Glen Arbor.The highway is a loop connected to M-22 at both ends that allows tourists access to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive located on a section of sandy forest land between Lake Michigan and Glen Lake.
Other than Robbin's Bay, popular fishing spots include Pickerel Cove on the southern shore, Bairds Cove on the left "wing" of the lake, and the many channels that protrude off the "butterfly" part of the lake. It is a popular tourist destination in the summer. The shops and businesses sprinkled along the shores and inland enjoy that time of year.
It is the only Michigan state park located on Lake Erie. The park encompasses 1,300 acres (530 ha) of mostly man-made lagoons and beachfront near the mouth of Sandy Creek. The main attractions at the park include a 256-site campground, beach area, boat launch, and shore fishing lagoons.

The park encompasses the entire 1.6-mile (2.6 km) western shoreline of Silver Lake, a 690-acre (280 ha) kidney-shaped natural lake approximately one mile inland from Lake Michigan. [5] The Silver Lake shore includes the park's active dune complex and an emergent wetland area adjacent to the lake in its southwestern corner.
