Snotlout and Ruffnut kidnap the Stinger and are taking it back to its pack when they and the rest of the riders are attacked by the other Speed Stingers, who have similarly evolved. The young Speed Stinger decides to help the riders chase off the pack, and, with its help and Hiccup's new wingsuit, drive the Stingers back across the sea.

Grimmel escapes while his Deathgripper dragons burn down Hiccup's house and Berk. Hiccup then rallies the citizens and dragons to leave Berk on a quest to find the Hidden World and safety from dragon hunters. Mid-journey, the Berkians discover an island on which they initially plan to rest, but soon begin to settle there, dubbing it "New Berk".
Toothless and the Light Fury wake up in a panic after finding out their children have left and fly off after them. Meanwhile, the Nights Lights arrive on New Berk and sneak around the village as the residents prepare for the pageant. Though they catch a glimpse of Hiccup, they fall back upon coming across Hiccup's Toothless costume.
The game is set on a deserted island in an open world, where the player collects resources and items that can be made into survival tools. The game has six different game modes: Survival, Challenging, Cruel, Harmless, Adventure, and Creative. The first four involve the player gathering necessary resources to stay alive.

The game has two different skill levels: "Learner Berk" and "Super Berk". The difference is that "Super Berk" mode includes flying ghosts that appear a set time after each task is announced. The ghosts hinder the player's progress by attacking Berk, sending him spinning into another room if he does not manage to avoid them.
