John Landis Mason, inventor of the Mason jar. In 1858, a Vineland, New Jersey, tinsmith named John Landis Mason (1832–1902) invented and patented a screw threaded glass jar or bottle that became known as the Mason jar (U.S. Patent No. 22,186.) [1] [2] From 1857, when it was first patented, to the present, Mason jars have had hundreds of variations in shape and cap design. [8]
A jar is a rigid, cylindrical or slightly conical container, typically made of glass, ceramic, or plastic, with a wide mouth or opening that can be closed with a lid, screw cap, lug cap, cork stopper, roll-on cap, crimp-on cap, press-on cap, plastic shrink, heat sealed lidding film, an inner seal, a tamper-evident band, or other suitable means.
A glass carafe. A carafe (/ k ə ˈ r æ f /) is a glass container with a flared lip used for serving liquids, especially wine and coffee. [1] Unlike the related decanter, carafes generally do not include stoppers. [2] Coffee pots included in coffee makers are also referred to as carafes in American English.
English carafe is an etymological doublet via Italian and French. [7] Demijohn originally referred to any glass vessel with a large body and small neck, enclosed in wickerwork. The word presumably comes from the French dame-jeanne, [8] literally "Lady Jane", as a popular appellation; this word is first attested in France in the 17th century. [9]
Since they're made of borosilicate glass, the containers are dishwasher-, oven- and microwave-safe (just not the lids), and their airtight silicone seals help prevent leaks. $42 at Amazon Amazon
The lid is painted plastic as well but very nice quality. I hate metal lids they start to smell after awhile. The time stamps have changed my life and it’s crazy!
