The Geiranger Fjord [1] [2] [3] (Norwegian: Geirangerfjorden) is a fjord in the Sunnmøre region of Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located entirely in the Stranda Municipality . It is a 15-kilometre-long ( 9 + 1 ⁄ 2 mi) branch off the Sunnylvsfjorden , which is a branch off the Storfjorden (Great Fjord).
The World Heritage Site consists of two areas 120 km apart, located in south-west Norway, north-west of the city of Bergen, and part of the fjord landscape of western Norway extending over 500 km between Stavanger in the south and Åndalsnes in the north.
Since 2005, the Geirangerfjord area has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Geiranger Church is the main church for the village and surrounding area.
