Lagos state is made up of five administrative divisions, namely, Ikorodu, Ikeja, Epe, Badagry, and Lagos Island, with Ikeja being the Capital. The five divisions consist of a total of 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). [1] [2] [3]

The past Executive Council [9] was serving under the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration who took office as the 15th Governor of Lagos State on 29 May 2019. [ 10 ] [ 11 ] [ 12 ] In the months after the inauguration, Sanwo-Olu nominated various members of the Executive Council, mostly in batches on July 15 [ 13 ] and August 13. [ 14 ]
The Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is the state government ministry, charged with the responsibility to plan, devise and implement the state policies on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. [1] [2]
The Ministry was restructured and reorganized in November 2015, under the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, via Lagos state government circular No.141 dated November 9, 2015, which changed some of the names of existing departments, created a new department, and changed the nomenclature of the Ministry's officers.
The ministries are responsible for various parastatals (government-owned corporations) such as universities (Education) and the State Broadcasting Commission. [8] The Lagos state ministry is coordinated by the Commissioner, assisted by a Permanent Secretary, who head the civil service departments.
