The 14 trunk line routes of the original state highway system of Connecticut. In 1900, the State Highway Department proposed a statewide system of trunk line routes. By 1913, the system consisted of 10 north-south highways and 4 east-west highways, including the lower Boston Post Road. The system covered roughly 1,400 miles (2,300 km).

In 1957, Connecticut received approval for the routes of its three primary Interstate highways: I-84, I-91, and I-95. This plan was extended in 1959 to include I-291 and I-491 . The first Interstate Highway signs were installed on a completed section of I-91 north of Hartford in 1961.

Route 53 is a state highway in the U.S. state of Connecticut, connecting the cities of Norwalk and Danbury.Most of the route has been made redundant by U.S. Route 7 (US 7), except for the last section from Bethel to Danbury, which is part of a direct route from the Bridgeport area to Danbury.
Route 22 is a 14.07-mile-long (22.64 km) secondary state route within the U.S. state of Connecticut. Route 22 is an L-shaped road that is signed east–west from Hamden to the western junction of Route 80 in North Branford, and north–south to its eastern terminus in Guilford.
Initially, Connecticut and Massachusetts requested that the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) extend the I-290 designation southward along free Route 52 and the Connecticut Turnpike to I-95 in Waterford. AASHTO rejected the I-290 request and instead approved the I-395 designation in 1983.
