The origins of Istanbul University date back to 1453, [13] [3] when it was founded by Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II as a school of philosophy, medicine, law and letters. [13] The University of Constantinople, established in 425 CE by the Eastern Roman emperor Theodosius II as the Pandidacterium, later became known as the Phanar Greek Orthodox College after the Fall of Constantinople in 1453.
Istanbul Nişantaşı University (Turkish: İstanbul Nişantaşı Üniversitesi) is a private, non-profit educational institution, founded in 2012 and located in Istanbul, Turkey. The university is supported financially by the Nişantaşı Education and Culture Foundation. It started education in the academic term 2010-11.

The ninth President Süleyman Demirel was present at the formal inauguration of the University in November 1996. The rector of Fatih University was Prof. Dr. Muhit Mert. MEF University is a non-profit private university in Istanbul, founded by the İbrahim Arıkan Education and Scientific Research Foundation. It opened in the academic year 2014–2015.
