Sycamore is a city in DeKalb County, Illinois, United States. It has a commercial district based and centered on Illinois Route 64. The population was 18,577 at the 2020 census, [2] up from 17,419 at the 2010 census. Sycamore is the county seat of DeKalb County and was named after the sycamore tree.
The building is a contributing member of the Sycamore Historic District. [4] It is directly across the street from another notable structure in the district, the National Bank & Trust Co. Building. Today the building is known as Sycamore Center, the Sycamore City Council currently meets in the structure.
The city of Sycamore responded by raising $70,000 in donations from its citizens and legal wrangling continued, until 1904. [7] Haish eventually pledged $103,000 for a DeKalb courthouse but it was decided that the county seat would stay in Sycamore and ground was broken, despite the continuing legal battle, on October 29, 1903.
