San Francisco (sans-serif typeface) San Francisco (also known as SF Pro) is a neo-grotesque typeface made by Apple Inc. It was first released to developers on November 18, 2014. [1][2] It is the first new typeface designed at Apple in nearly twenty years and has been inspired by Helvetica and DIN. [1]
The font was developed by Sedley Place Ltd. for German car manufacturer Volkswagen and was used in much of their marketing materials. [6] On March 9, 2015, Apple introduced a new generation of MacBook [7] that utilizes the Apple designed San Francisco typeface.

The earliest version of San Francisco's current primary logo, an intertwined white "SF" within the center of a red oval, also debuted in the 1962 helmet design. By 1972-73 the oval was slightly smaller in size and gained a thicker black border.
