ECPI University was founded in Norfolk, Virginia, by Alfred Dreyfus [3] in 1966 as Electronic Computer Programming Institute. Initially formed as an institution offering accelerated education in computer science and programming, ECPI University later expanded its offerings to include electronics engineering technology, health sciences, nursing, and culinary arts.
In 1972, it was renamed Eastern College. [5] In 2001, the Pennsylvania Department of Education granted the institution university status and it was renamed Eastern University. In 2004, the institution's Board voted to acquire its previous parent institution and Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary became a subsidiary of Eastern University.
The college closed in 1920 due to low enrollment and financial challenges.. [1] [6] It leased its buildings to a college for young women, also called Eastern College. [1] [5] That school closed in 1922. [1] In 1923, the former campus was sold at auction and was used by the Snavely School for Boys, a college preparatory school from 1924 to 1935.
