The Alliance Clay Product Company was chartered in 1905, as a company for "the purpose of the manufacturing, selling and dealing in brick, paving blocks, building blocks, sewer pipe, drain tile and all kinds of clay product". [2] The buildings themselves were built beginning in 1906, the year the company was founded by James B. Wilcox.

John and Nancy Grant were some of the earliest families to settle in Stark County, Ohio. [3] Upon their settling in Stark County the couple purchased a grant of land of 160 acres in 1812. [4] This land would make up a large portion of the west side of Alliance. The house was completed in stages beginning in 1827 and finalized in 1842.
