Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is a public research university in Richmond, Virginia, United States. VCU was founded in 1838 as the medical department of Hampden–Sydney College , becoming the Medical College of Virginia in 1854.
VCU School of Pharmacy was founded in 1898 as part of the Medical College of Virginia. It consistently has been ranked among the top 20 pharmacy schools in the United States by U.S. News & World Report. [1] From 2014 until June 2022 the school was headed by Dean Joseph T. DiPiro. It currently is led by Dean K.C. Ogbonna.
DiPiro is past president of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. [7] He is an ACCP fellow and has served on the Research Institute Board of Trustees. He has been a member of the Surgical Infection Society Therapeutic Agents Committee and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, having served on the Commission on Therapeutics and the Task Force on Science.
The College of Health Professions is located on VCU's MCV Campus and was created in 1969. The name of the college was formerly the "School of Allied Health Professions" but was changed to its current moniker in 2018. [3] Today, the College enrolls approximately 1,300 students. All departments are headquartered in Richmond, Virginia.
