The Onizuka Center for International Astronomy Visitor Information Station (VIS) is located on the Maunakea Access Road at 19°45'33"N Latitude, 155°27′22″W Longitude, and 9,200ft (2,804m) Elevation. Take the Daniel K Inouye Highway (Saddle Road) and turn onto Maunakea Access Road (Milepost 28).
At 9,200ft (2,800m) elevation the visitor center is a great place for stargazing, especially if you visit during the free monthly stargazing events. The drive over Saddle Road and up to the visitor center is also highly worth it, and shows a beautiful side of Hawaiʻi.
Great place to visit. This time we notice to go by rental car until Onizuka information visitor center. Sky is deep and clear blue feels close to the space. Sunset is famous but It’s better to go picnic and not need to drive dark, if you climb up and down keep slow traffic and low gear.
