The 360 heroes 3d rig exhibits the same inconsistencies as the Panocam 3d rig. Warping the image in realtime based on user head position can make these rigs work better, but I've yet to see it work in practice.
Just a follow up, I tried this method and it worked fine. What I did find though was that Kolor Eyes kept crashing if I tried to open files in the highest video resolution quality, but it performed OK with 1080 or below video quality. It might just be my ancient computer that was causing the problem. Anyway, thanks again for your help :)

There used to be an app called Kolor Eyes that allowed to watch 3D SBS videos in 2D. Is there any available video player now that can do the same?
Kolor Eyes was just made private to GoPro-shot content (I'm shooting with Kodak SP360 4K). Cardboard doesn't seem to support iOS. I can render the 360 video with metadata and get it on youtube as a 360 video. I simply can't view it split screen on VR with a viewer + iPhone through anything I can find.
