Located in The Sugarlands, it lies within the boundaries of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It was built in 1860, and is the last surviving structure from the pre-park Forks-of-the-River community.
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park covers a total of 522,419 acres (816.280 sq mi; 211,415 ha; 2,114.15 km 2) The park is roughly evenly divided between Tennessee and North Carolina, and is located within portions of Blount, Sevier, and Cocke Counties in Tennessee, and Swain and Haywood Counties in North Carolina. Mount Le Conte (or LeConte) is a mountain located within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Sevier County, Tennessee. At 6,593 ft (2,010 m) it is the third highest peak in the national park, behind Clingmans Dome (6,643 ft (2,025 m)) and Mount Guyot (6,621 ft (2,018 m)). It is also the highest peak that is completely within Tennessee.
