First Responder (EMR) gets around 40 hours of training EMTs get 120-180 (based on the area) hours EMT usually goes a lot more into depth with medical issues. This is so that they can get some sort of idea of what might be happening. I was a First Responder before getting my EMT. I was very limited to lifting, taking vitals, and writing down the ...
About thirty-two hours. What you are seeing is simply the new terminology for their combined Standard First Aid/CPR/AED class that lasts about 9 hours. Their Advanced First Aid / Emergency Response class is equivalent to DOT First Responder training, and is over 50 hours. Last edited by a moderator: Apr 2, 2009.
National standards and the NREMT use the nomenclature "Emergency Medical Responder." New York State, in its infinite wisdom, uses the term "Certified First Responder." The scope of practice is essentially the same, as is the educational standard, as of May 2013. Good EMS systems are all alike; every bad EMS system is bad in its own way.

The fastest way to kill the service attitude in a FF is to give them the title "Firefighter" but then use them in a single-function (EMS).
CLS/EMT/Medic Ok, that is the same as First Responder, EMT-B and EMT-P or Paramedics. The difference isnt much. Just a few classes. I like the CLS course, cause it saves me from having to do IV's or a lot of work. I love Paramedics cause they still have to do all the work. So, if you ask me, I will sit back and enjoy their struggles. LOL

11,307. 3,480. 113. The term is different from person to person. Your not going to get one solid answer. In a smaller town with a volunteer company it may be normal to wear "I'm an EMT bada**" shirt around or a department shirt. However in a bigger town that is viewed as "hey, that guy is a whacker."
