Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device. Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type " printui.exe /s " (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter. Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
This issue persists despite other scanner apps successfully utilizing the device. It's frustrating that HP's own software doesn't support this function adequately. First look in the recycle bin and see if you can undelete it. Then try a repair. Enter "add or remove" in the windows search. Then locate your scanner. I assume you are using HP Smart. If the above does not work then please provide the Product ID or Model name for better assistance.
