The EMD SD90MAC is a model of 6,000 hp (4,470 kW) [1] C-C diesel-electric locomotive produced by General Motors Electro-Motive Division (EMD). It is, with the SD80MAC, one of the largest single-engined locomotives produced by EMD and among the most powerful diesel-electric locomotives, surpassed only by the dual-engined DDA40X.
While HO scale is a 1:87 scale (3.5 mm to 1 foot), resulting in a 16.5 mm (0.65 in) gauge from real life prototype 1,435 mm (4 ft 8 + 1 ⁄ 2 in) standard gauge standard gauge. Conversely, modeling standard gauge in Lego trains would yield a scaling of (37.5:1435 =) 1:38.3.
Ten units of the first series were built between 1967 and 1969, each costing DKK ~2.4 million each. [2] One is kept by the Danish Railway Museum (MZ 1401), [7] while the rest were sold to various Swedish operators between 2002 and 2006 including three to Motala Verkstad, two to Svensk Tågteknik (STT), and single units to TÅGAB, Inlandsgods, BK Tåg and Three T AB.
DM30AC 511 was damaged in an accident on May 25, 2019. It hit a 14-unit long train stopped at the siding east of Speonk station, which is 13 units long; this caused the locomotive to lose a third rail shoe and sustain frame damage. [6] It is now sitting in the Morris Park Facility, most likely to be used for parts before being scrapped. [7]
The EMD GP10 is a diesel-electric locomotive that is the result of rebuilding a GP7, GP9 or GP18.. The Illinois Central Railroad had three separate rebuild programs to upgrade their old EMD GPs and GPs that they had purchased from equipment dealers such as Precision National Corporation in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
An NTrak layout set up for operations at Trainfest, a model train show in Milwaukee, WI in 2004. NTRAK (all upper case letters) is one of several model railroad module standards. It is the most popular standard for use in United States N scale. NTRAK allows modelers to participate in a large layout but only invest a small amount of space at ...
The majority of the locomotives were sold for as little as $20,000 to short-line and regional railroads such as the Rail Link, Inc., the York Railway, and the Maryland & Delaware Railroad (6 were involved in wrecks and 3 others sent directly to the scrap yards), though Amtrak and GE Transportation were among the major initial purchasers. By ...
Too tight a 'crest' curve could result in the train leaving the track as it drops away beneath it; too tight a 'trough' and the train will plough downwards into the rails and damage them. More precisely, the support force R exerted by the track on a train as a function of the curve radius r , the train mass m , and the speed v , is given by
