Hallstatt (German: ⓘ) is a small town in the district of Gmunden, in the Austrian state of Upper Austria. The Hallstatt salt mine is the oldest continuously exploited by humans. Several factors contribute to its suitability for the MOM archives: as well as the depth and relative stability of the mine, the salt absorbs moisture and dries the air, and it has a natural plasticity that helps to seal cracks and fractures, keeping the caverns watertight.
This theory links the Celts with the Iron Age Hallstatt culture which followed it (c. 1200 –500 BC), named for the rich grave finds in Hallstatt, Austria, and with the following La Tène culture (c. 450 BC onward), named after the La Tène site in Switzerland.
