Lily Yu Chu-Monteverde [1] (19 August 1938 – 4 August 2024), known as Mother Lily and professionally credited as Lily Yu Monteverde, was a Chinese Filipino film producer and businesswoman. Monteverde was one of the first Filipina movie producers who produced many local blockbuster films under different genres in the 1970s and 1980s.
Lily and Mario Cohen divorced in the early 1960s. [6] In 1965, Lily married Alfredo Monteverde , [7] formerly Greenberg. [8] He was a Romanian Jewish immigrant who fled Europe in 1939. [5] He was a leader in the Brazilian household appliance distribution business, where he established the Ponto Frio brand. Lily adopted his child, named Carlos.
In 1976, Mother Lily asked permission from her father to produce her first project, Kayod sa Umaga, Kayod sa Gabi and it became a big hit then in theatres.
